My name is Stacey Sparks-Huff and I am a the definition of a born entrepreneur! If I am not working on building a business, I am helping others with theirs. It is in my blood and it’s my passion.
I was born in Hamilton, OH to a couple of cool hippie parents my (mom is a visionary and my dad, an inventor) who raised me to believe that I could anything that I put my mind to. My parents also have the entrepreneurial spirit and they passed that on to my sister and I.
I now have my own family and my children also share the love of entrepreneurialism. My son Avery is my sidekick in my new venture called simple vgn. My daughter is in high school still deciding what she really wants to do in life, but no matter what that is, she will be amazing! I believe she is trying to escape the fact that deep down she wants to be an entrepreneur. She always tells me,”Mom, I don’t want to be an entrepreneur, I want a steady paycheck”. Haha, well, she’s got that right.
And my husband Joe is honestly my rock and my biggest supporter. No matter the struggles that I have faced in my businesses, he’s has always been there to tell me that everything is going to be fine. And he’s always right about that.
I decided to go vegetarian about 10 years ago and my children followed suit a few years later. One night, Avery called me to the kitchen and he says “Mom, I think I’m ready to go vegan”.
That was the night that our vegan journey began and I knew I had to learn how to cook vegan. Now, let me tell you that I have never been known for my cooking skills ( I mean I’m the one people would ask to bring paper plates and plastic cutlery to a potluck…LOL), so I knew i had my work cut out for me. I immediately made Pinterest and YouTube my best friend. I started learning how to take our favorite comfort food dishes and veganize them. I began getting creative and inventive with our foods at home. I had figured out a way to make vegan desserts without having to use flax seed, chia seeds, banana or applesauce (the usual vegan egg substitutes) and my desserts were turning out light, fluffy and can I just say amazing! I knew I was on to something, and I knew people would buy these. That’s when simple vgn. was born!
Avery and I began brainstorming and came up yummy recipes and our tiny kitchen became a test kitchen.
I have to say, things have happened rather fast for my little vegan startup. It’s been a mere 3 months since I first pitched to Sandy Cleary and now I have officially partnered with her and her amazing team. Who knew a vegan carrot cake could get me here! I will be forever be thankful and grateful for this opportunity and I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and get to work.
Our goal behind simple vgn. Is to make vegan desserts and comfort foods, simple, accessible, allergen-free (we are dairy-free, egg-free and some of our varieties are gluten-free as well) and above everything else, delicious! And we use the finest ingredients and our products are good for the Earth too. Our products are made with sustainable and environmentally friendly ingredients and packaging. I cannot wait to share these products with the vegan community and the world!
There’s a saying that an entrepreneur will work 80 hours to avoid working 40 for someone else, and this is so true for me. I have held every job known to man, and it’s been proven over and over again, it’s just not for me. Owning your own company isn’t always rainbows and unicorns, and there are always obstacles and hurdles, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I love the daily struggles and rewards and I am beyond blessed to be able to say that this is my life.
